Deanna's Story

I was quiet, insecure and shy in H.S.....but a lot of were weren't we???....I have referred to myself as a late bloomer.....in order to blossom and become the person I am today I had to go out in the world discover and find myself....after graduation I did not immediately attend college , I didn't know who I was or what I wanted...so instead of college I worked and traveled for 3 years. Three years later I attended Long Beach City College as a part student at first and then full time. In High School I maintained a heavier weight. Once I was on my own I began to live a healthier lifestyle and found the activities I love such as running, hiking, cycling, swimming and walking to be great ways to get my cardio on a regular basis. Today, if you saw me at a class reunion you would not recognize me immediately as I am physically & emotionally so much more different than the little shy-insecure girl in the class of 73 yearbook. I have always worked a steady career starting at the age of 17, while I attended college as a working full time student. I really enjoyed college, almost too much, it was nourishment for me and a method to continue my journey of this self discovery path I was on. I thought I knew myself pretty well when I met my first husband and married in 1984, sadly it lasted only 4 years. He was a great guy but it wasn't right for me...at least not yet...I wasn't done with some of the things I needed to do. I was determined not to do that again (get married) but we really don't have control who we fall in love with and now, years later in 2019 I am happy and looking forward to what my life has in store for myself and with my future . I have no children and have no plans to adopt children and this conforms to the plan I always had for my life and my own personal reasons for doing so. I would like to see the day arrive when a woman does not have to explain why she is not a mother. I am an outdoors girl and an indoors girl as well. I don't mind getting my hands dirty while holding onto a rock-ledge during a hike, I can handle getting my hair wet whitewater rafting & scuba diving. My last dive was in Catalina for the 4th of July 2007. Extreme sports suit me and in-spite of neck surgery in 2004 to fuse 2 vertebrae, I am grateful and continue to enjoy these and other sports such as water skiing and snow skiing, my favorite outdoor sport. As I just mentioned, my interests are both outside and inside and they are (in no particular order) animal rescue-care-volunteer work, gardening-landscape, flower/plant yard art design, vegetable gardening, interior design, cooking all kinds of cuisine ( that is a work in progress, completely self taught) In addition to being a foodie I am a blogger, seamstress-designer of fashion and costume, interior design, re-purposing or up-cycling, art painting portraits, domestic pets, Spaniards, Eastern Indians, African, Mexican, Peruvians,Brazilian, Tahitians,Moroccan , Indian etc tribal people, wild animals, whimsy, landscapes, mixed mediums, collage, trees and more. I am a craftier as well as an artist and that takes me in many directions, hand built pottery, paper mache' up-cycling using furniture, junk, musical instruments, tools, clothes and more. I am currently designing a parade float for the Annual Golf Cart Parade event coming up at the end of October. I also have a project underway using dolls and other miscellaneous pieces called 'assemblage art'. I have a lot of the following characteristics: determination, competitive, ambitious, passion, a giver, a lover, a loyal friend, a bottled up creative p...Expand for more
erson with little time for the arts, crafts and just doing nothing. If it seems to you that I am busy, I AM ! I enjoy being busy and not idle. Life is short, I started to be more aware of just how short life is following the death of Tim Russert, Whitney Houston, Farrah Fawcett, more, I began to realize that time is a gift and I set goals-in a bucket list of sorts, to have fun and reach high to win...because tomorrow, the lights could go out and there's no switch to turn them back on again. As mentioned earlier I have had one major surgery and have watched my parents age and my father pass away. I have watched many friends and acquaintances, many younger than I, suffer with illness and my story is no different than most other people who come face to face with their own mortality once they experience loss or a serious medical procedure that allows them to have a quality active life. I appreciate everything life has to offer, love to be with friends and family and wake-up each day ready for what comes my way. Since children aren't part of my life I enjoy my pets and travel.. I am free to come and go as I please. I've been many places around the world but I still have a travel-2-do-list longer than the travel-I've_done list which reminds me... If I look back on my life I have to say there are a few regrets...I am very proud of all I have accomplished and the job is far from done. I guess most people include information about their career-occupation. Jobs, I've had were many but my 'career' has changed over the years and I can count 3 distinct paths. I first started in Telecommunications for 10 years. I went back to college for 2 more years after leaving telecommunications and obtained a Certification in Fashion & Costume Design + Merchandising and I also obtained the lower level Associates Science Degree ( rather than a Bachelor's) in Business Management. I might add that my education is mixed and extensive, I really didn't bother putting all those units together to form the required curriculum for that 3rd or 4th degree. After I left college for the 2nd time, with 10 years in the telecommunications industry I moved into Travel Sales & Marketing for 10+ years. I have maintained that career today on my own as it applies to the business I am building now in Phase 3 of my life. My business will include travel design resort event/wedding planning and demographic target marketing. Yes, it sounds like a lot but I like to be busy, I am talented in many areas and I hope to experience it all in my own business so that if I want to narrow down my line I can do so if need be and with certainty that I'm deleting the right specialty of my business. My business is "The Resort Collection" which houses the umbrella of services I mentioned above, TRAVEL, FASHION-COSTUME DESIGN, EVENT + WEDDING PLANNING, MARKETING, RESORT THEME INTERIOR DESIGNS... I am online at Facebook, my blog dedeannasimplepleasures blogspot , on FB under 'Miles High' for travel promotions and packages and my own website for my fashion-costume design, travel, more If you are here on this website to reconnect with old friends or to network and something about my profile information inspires you, I invite you to send me a message to say hello, introduce yourself, make a business proposal or just ask a question.... I invite you to do so...I may not reply right away as I may be in Cannes or Phuket....but I will get back to you. Favorite Movie Line - "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way" Jessica Rabbit, from the movie the adventures of Roger Rabbit- The very first animated film for adults
